    Hey team,

So this week officially marks one year since I started CF and joined Core! I can’t believe how insanely fast this year has gone by and am still in shock that CrossFit wasn’t in my life sooner. This is a daily thing for me now and I am so glad to have found it, not just for the leaps and bounds achieved physically, but for what it has done for me on many other levels as well. I have hit some major milestones throughout the past year and I am so appreciative for the coaches and other members that have helped me to achieve them. Things that I never thought were attainable are now within my reach and the best thing about CF is that you reach goals and create new ones every single day. I remember my first day like it was yesterday and can’t believe the progress and results I have seen in just a short year. It’s silly now thinking about how nervous and intimated I was and remember a couple weeks in, watching a girl doing pull ups and telling myself that it would never happen for me. A girl, doing pull ups??? I thought these people were crazy!! That is finally a thing of the past; I have gotten much more physically stronger over the past year, but more importantly, mentally stronger.

Each of the coaches have played a huge part in me gaining strength and confidence. On Adrian’s first day, when we had open gym, he worked with me one on one for what felt like days on the clean technique. I thought he probably hated me for not getting it, but he was patient with me to say the least and wouldn’t let me beat myself up. We also worked on max height box jumps and his method was awesome, he wouldn’t let me think about it, he just made me do it. Tom worked with me so much when I first started and I attribute a lot of my gains to him; he definitely should take a 2nd job as a motivational speaker or life coach, I swear. A lot of this CrossFit stuff is so mental, and I think often times we let our heads get the better of us. I never thought that I could lift so much weight, do pull ups, hand stand push ups, etc, etc, etc. But like Coach Bryon says, each rep counts…seriously, each day is a chance to dig deep, push yourself, and then do it again tomorrow.

For anyone that is just starting out or still fairly new, remember that we all started where you are today and that you will see optimal results. Whatever your goals are, write them down, tell a coach, tell us, because everyone that goes to Core knows where you are coming from and can get you there. I have never seen such a good group of people all in the same place; every person in each class is exemplary and the intensity and encouraging words are exactly what I need to get through the workout. I freaking love this place and some of us joke about “spreading the CF gospel,” but really, I want everyone to know about this! I try to explain it to friends and they just don’t get it, so I am forever glad that myself and all of you were willing to give it a chance. This year has been awesome and I am pumped about the new goals and feats that the next year will bring for all of us. I appreciate you all, am proud of you all, and look forward to the growth of our Core CF family.

    Love ya guys! -Shawna

WOW, has it been a year for you Shawna!! Look what you have done in the past year. I remember when you first started and it was just the 2 of us in the 6:30 class. Now look at you.. you have achieved so much in the past year not only in your strength but also in your confidence. You have become one of the bad asses at the gym. The one we look at for times/weights, etc and try to strive for that! Awesome job in the past year!! :-)
