  • I had a chance to hear Dr. Bob Rakowski speak on Performance Nutrition this past weekend at a conference in Dana Point, CA.  While the content was pretty technical, and truly meant for physicians, chiropracters and nutritionists, I still got a lot from it!  This is a “must review” for everyone especially the Competition Team.  I’ve attached a link to the slides and will have a copy of the full presentation in a week or two.

Dr. Rakowski addresses Maximizing Fuel (food & supplements), Minimizing Damage, and Optimizing Recovery.  He addresses the protein and carbohydrate requirements for athletes; the timing of carbs – both for athletic performance and weight loss; which high quality carbs elevate insulin after workouts, but do not increase appettite; the power and necessity of branched-chain amino acids; and lots more.

We already knew this, but he spoke about the necessity of DETOX to reduce toxins that interfere with human energy (mitochrondria) efficiency.  He believes everyone (especially athletes) should detox twice a year.

I had a chance to speak with Dr. Rakowski briefly after the presentation.  He was potentially interested in spending some time with the AZ CrossFit Community to deliver a version of this presentation in  laymen’s terms.  I am not sure if we can afford him or not, but I will check it out.  In the meantime, take a look at his slides and stay tuned for the full presentation which will be coming soon.
