Just a little background before I get to my experience with NRT. I grew up in an age when females were expected to have curves not muscles. I was never very athletic but enjoyed swimming, yoga and a few of the typical sports you find at any picnic gathering. I enjoyed a full life, college, raising two kids and being an Army wife.
But then like a vehicle that is not maintained, the decades caught up with a body that had only seen sporadic exercise based on minuscule knowledge of body mechanics and chemistry. I begin hearing doctors say, “Your getting older what do you expect.” Well yes, but this seemed like a very approach to life.
My daughter had become an enthusiastic core Cross Fit member after watching my strength, stamina and balance deteriorate. Through her gentle persuasion I went in for an evaluation. The environment was totally foreign but everyone was so open and friendly. Yes I saw the very buff but I also a wide variety of ages and fitness levels. This was not a competition but a place full of people who could help guide me to improve my overall health and fitness. Bonus, staff and patrons were one of the most upbeat group of people I have ever been around.
Because of two hip replacements and numerous other medical issues I participate in a small group class which has been the perfect fit. Where does NRT fit in? At Core they work hard to develop programs which address every aspect of what it takes to have a healthy lifestyle. If they find something they feel can help a clients goals they will work to offer it at their facility. After decades of misusing my body, I was dealing with a lot of nerve pain that had me depending on a cane to get around. The suggestion was made to try a session with Ray, one of the NRT therapists.
The addition of sessions with Ray has reduced the nerve pain by 80% and my cane is only needed if I do something stupid like deciding to move heavy furniture on my own. NRT is an outstanding additional to my goals of getting fit, strong, flexible, mobile and pain free. I wish everyone, especially we of the more mature years, would take the opportunity to incorporate treatments and programs like NRT and Core CrossFit into their daily routines. It will truly enhance the quality of your life.
