What Is CrossFit?

CrossFit is not your typical “gym”. You wont be confronted by annoying sales people trying to get you to sign up or buy the latest gimmick. The setting is less intimidating and more personal. The atmosphere is one of support and camaraderie between  anyone willing to put in the work.

If you’re stuck in a plateau or haven’t seen the results you desire, we can help you reach those goals.  You’ll see increased Cardio Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Balance, Agility and Accuracy.  Seeing progress in these 10 fitness domains may not be your main concern, but they lead to those physical changes everybody is looking for.  You’re body fat will drop as you gain lean muscle, and your clothes will start to fit  a little different. Along with the physical  changes that take place, you’ll start to notice the most important transformation. That’s self-confidence. You’ll surprise yourself with what you’ll become capable of doing in the gym, on the track, at work, and in your personal life.  Our clients range from college athletes, to stay at home moms, to grandparents and everyone in between.

We’ll provided you with direction, supervision, and motivation enabling you to work safely at your full potential – all you have to do is show up ready to work.  If you’re just starting to get back into shape we can/will scale every workout to your physical capabilities.  We do this regularly with our clients by adjusting weight, reps, and distance.  Don’t feel intimidated by what you see posted on our website, everybody started by doing scaled workouts.  You don’t have to be in shape to come to CrossFit, you get in shape by coming to  Core CrossFit!

CrossFit classes are about 60 minutes and consist of a warm up, skill practice followed by the workout . We place a heavy emphasis on good technique and proper form which will ensure confidence, safety, and results.

Getting Started

After you decide to sign up, we have what’s called “Beginners Program.”  In this program you’ll learn the nine basic CrossFit movements and additional common CrossFit exercises.  Our intent is to get you more familiar with the movements and refine technique.  It will give you a chance to slowly acclimate your body to these workouts while giving us a chance to gage your physical abilities before you jump into the group classes.

Private training is also available.

If you have any questions just call or stop in to check out the facility.  We will be happy to address any concerns you may have.

TESTIMONIALS

This photo is from an event I participated in on March 29th and 30th called Bike MS: Round Up Ride 2009. It is a 150 mile bike ride through Florence, Coolidge and Casa Grande to raise money for the National MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Society. The photo was taken near the finish line and I’m still smiling!! This was my second year participating in this event and I’d like to share my training experience this year as compared to my training from the prior year. For the 2008 MS ride, I trained for almost an entire year doing spin classes 4-5 days a week and doing long distance rides on Sundays. I focused solely on cycling for the entire year and had great results at event time. My training for the 2009 ride was much different. Because of work and just life in general, I didn’t begin training until January 2009 and that training was with Core CrossFit. I relied solely on CrossFit workouts to get me into shape for the event which was rapidly approaching. In total, I may have put in 3 rides and a total of 150 miles on my bike by the time the race came around. I was nervous that I wasn’t going to be able to finish. Not only did I finish the race…I finished just as fast as I had the prior year!! That means that 3 months of CrossFit gave me the same results as 11 months of cycling! I can’t wait to see what over a year of training at Core CrossFit can do for me at next year’s ride!! I am a true believer that CrossFit can prepare you for any physical event you choose to participate in. Core CrossFit has made me a stronger person, both physically and mentally. When I get to the point where I think I can’t go on, I’ve learned to dig down deep and find the strength to continue…and that is a lesson that is valuable both inside and outside of the gym.
Thank you Coaches and my fellow CrossFitters who continue to encourage me to push myself harder than I ever thought I could.

It is difficult for me to break down into writing all that Core CrossFit has meant to me.  I have been with Core CrossFit since it opened and it has positively affected my strength, my body composition, and my confidence.  The results I have achieved and the impact Core CrossFit has had on me are more than I could have ever thought possible.  I owe it all to the tenacious, yet practical and safe training I receive at Core CrossFit.  The trainers are always striving to push me to reach goals; they believed in me when I sometimes didn’t even believe in myself, and I now believe anything is possible.  One of the most satisfying traits of what Core CrossFit represents is exhibited every day when we all workout with each other, encourage each other, and are proud of each other for the efforts we show.  Whether it is someone’s first time, or they are a regular, the welcome atmosphere is evident and the encouragement saturates everything we do.  Core CrossFit has changed my life.

Last year (2008) I was 186 lbs and unhappy with me.  I kept telling myself I was fine, having kids changes you.  I had 3 c-sections, so that was just how it was gonna be.  I couldn’t change it.  In January,  I met Tom and he told me about Crossfit.  He showed me video clips of people doing things that were “just not humanly possible.”  I was positive that there was no way I could ever do what “those” people were doing.  It’s funny how things have changed.  Crossfit for me wasn’t so much the physical part as much as the mental part.  My body was capable of doing so much more than my mind would allow.  I was afraid though.  Afraid of looking stupid.  Afraid of passing out.  Afraid of failing.  I had “seen” the workouts and they seemed impossible to finish!

Crossfit has really changed me.  It changed the way I think about me.  I’m strong and capable of anything I set my mind to.  I’m officially down 50 lbs and I just ran the Iron Girl 5K.  I was shocked when I finished 74th out of 782 runners.  Even better than that, I finished 10th out of 136 runners in my age group! (not bad for a first timer)  I go to the 9am class at Core Crossfit every Saturday and try to do the home workouts on my own a couple times during the week.  I give most of the credit to Crossfit and the truly amazing trainers there.  The Crossfit family won’t let me fail.  They encourage me, support me, and push me to go one step further than I think I can.  I love the workouts and the way I feel afterward.  Being surrounded by people who cheer you on and support you is incredible!  They are genuinely proud and excited for every accomplishment and every goal I reach.

I just signed up and now I get to work on being one of “those” people doing things that are “just not humanly possible.”  Pull-ups are one of my next goals.

People have noticed the changes on the outside, but I’m most excited about the changes on the inside. … “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.  The mind is everything.  What we think we become.” … I think I am happy with me.
